Poster Competition

The Chesapeake Chamber Music Poster Competition invited local artists to submit images that suggested the beauty of the Eastern Shore as a setting for the beauty of music. All images were required to be original, one-of-a-kind pieces of art, created by the hand of the artist. Click here for the rules.

The winner of this year’s Competition is Karen Mathis’ “Sunset Sail”. Mathis’ image will be used to promote the 2012 Chesapeake Chamber Music Festival, and the original painting will be auctioned at the 2012 Gala on March 3, 2012.

About the Winner and her Winning Artwork

Karen Mathis, who earned degree in Design at George Washington University, paints “En Plein Air” across the United States, Canada, and France. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions across the mid-Atlantic and has won many awards. Living on a cove off of the Tred Avon River, Mathis says that she has a first-hand opportunity to experience the ever-changing personalities of water during all seasons of the year and times of day.
