The fifth annual Chesapeake Chamber Music Gala honored the music, cuisine and culture of Brasil in a scintillating A NIGHT IN RIO! on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge, MD.
Honorary Chairmen of the Gala was former United States Ambassador to Brasil Anthony Harrington and his wife, Hope. Chair was Laurie Yorkilous and Senior Advisor was Leslie Westbrook.
The black tie, Brasilian attire event began at 6 p.m. in the concert hall with an Interlude Concert of Brasilian classical music performed by the Brasil Guitar Duo of Sao Paolo, winner of the 2006 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. Artists Joao Luiz and Douglas Lora have been playing together for ten years, performed a broad repertoire of classical guitar duos matched with the traditional music of their native Brasil. A cocktail hour featuring tropical drinks from Rio and Brasilian hors d'oeuvres was accented by a plentiful Silent Auction of goods and services. Party-goers then adjourned to the dinning room for a stunning Live Auction led by the Dueling Auctioneers Paul Berry and Bill Corace.
The evening in Rio moved with a classic Brasilian dinner created for the occasion by Hyatt Regency Executive Chef Tony Breeze, which was followed by music to samba and salsa the night away.
Tickets for the Gala were $150 per person. Patrons who supported the Gala at $250 per person were given VIP seating at the Gala and were invited to a "to kill for" Patron's Preview Party on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Knightly on Leeds Creek, a gorgeous circa 1820 Talbot County estate and formal garden.
