It has been 23 years since the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival, Inc. began with a single concert performed in June for a small group of chamber music lovers on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
Since then, our Festival has evolved to two weeks of glorious music. Festival 24 will be June 4th - June 14th, 2009. We've become globally- known due to our biennial Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition with entries from many countries. The next competition will be held on March 27, 2010. Our Interlude Concerts delight music lovers in the Fall and the Spring. The next Interlude concert will feature the Brasil Guitar Duo at our Gala, scheduled for March 13, 2009, which reaches many who have never been exposed to our music-making. And our First Strings and Presto! YouthReach programs bring music instruction to some 600 elementary school violinists.
This multi-dimensional musical organization has changed, and now, so has its name. As much as we love the "Eastern Shore" and this place, there are many Eastern Shores on many bodies of water. There is only one "Chesapeake." And as much as we love our "Festival", we are now much more than a "Festival."
What we have become is an organization committed to exposing a growing audience of all ages to "Chamber Music" in its broadest sense, from Bach to Bartok, from the Classics to Tango. The new name? "Chesapeake Chamber Music, Inc."
